After playing at the high school level for the last four years,                                                                many looked forward to competing at the collegiate level for                                                                    baseball and softball. These seniors had to look at all the schools                                                            and their offers to be able to choose what was best for them. The                                                            players took different approaches to this. Connor Peck (12) picked                                                          the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
“I liked how they had different technology, compared to other                                                            schools, that they can use for baseball,” Peck said.
Peck considered eventually transferring to a bigger school for                                                            baseball. Samuel Callow (12) had different reasons for committing to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, including a focus on his education in data science.
“[Platteville] was cheaper, I had a better chance at playing right away, and they offer a good program for my major,” Callow said.
Emma Lighthizer (12) planned to minor in Spanish. She looked for ways to connect her athleticism to her major. She planned to attend the Wisconsin Lutheran College in Wauwatosa.
“I want to be an athletic trainer, whether it's in a hospital, high school, or with a professional team,” Lighthizer said.
As the year neared its end, committed players got closer to their start at a new season with a new team. For Morgan Calhoun (12), she found this on the Illinois State University softball team. She even committed in October of her junior year.
“I can’t wait to work with the coaches and players down there,” Calhoun said. “I’m excited to meet lots of new people.”
With the beginning of their college experience growing closer, so did the end of their last high school season. This came with mixed emotions.
“I’m going to miss some of the girls I’ve been playing with for years, but I’m so excited for college,” Calhoun said.
As their last year playing with these students and coaches, they needed to keep an optimistic attitude and take these last opportunities presented to them in high school. The baseball team looked to go big.
“This is our last chance to really prove something for the school, and I think we have a good opportunity to,” Peck said. “We’re going to beat everybody.”
